The Royal feeling of travelling by Bus
I know I know…. I don’t frequently update this diary of mine though my mind (my actual diary) has been collecting several thoughts over the time, moreover now I do have my Nokia E5 to write things whenever I get the vibe to. I would rather directly start with one of my experiences which made me write this article.
"Are you mad? Auto se hi jayenge" (Are you mad? We will go by Auto only), these were the words of my friends when he got to know of my ‘low-class’ intentions of using the bus for going to another place in Pune. I said – "what’s the problem with bus? And specially if the time of the day suggests that buses will be running almost vacant!"
This piece of article is not just to add another entry to my infrequently updated blog, but to prove my point of a bus traveller being a royal one. A girl looking out of the auto rickshaw towards a bus going besides her often gives her a feeling of ‘self-pride’ that she’s travelling by an auto. This article clarifies the issue of such a falsely instilled pride among people, specially in Pune (Maharashtra, India).
Let us begin with certain facts. I know people today are not really interested in philosophy, what everyone need are facts.
1.1) Cost of a standard double door bus -> Rs. 50,00,000 (approximately)
1.2) Standard capacity of bus at one time -> 60 people (including standees)
1.3) Net capital cost a person bears -> Rs. 5000000 / 60 = Rs. 83,333
2.1) Cost of a standard Auto rickshaw -> Rs. 1,50,000 (including license)
2.2) Standard capacity of Auto at one time -> 3 people
2.3) Net capital cost a person bears -> Rs. 150000 / 3 = Rs. 50,000
So if you just see the Net capital cost a person bears in both cases, you should see the clear difference that a person travelling by bus will be richer by Rs. 33,333 as compared to the person who travels by Auto rickshaw.
My question is: Why do people often feel that people travelling by bus are poor and low-class??
